2012 WineBarn Red- Trincadeira Preta, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional & Souzao

Our 2012 WineBarn Red is a blend of Trincadeira Preta, a variety found in Portugal. It’s known for it’s spice and raspberry flavors. Tinta Roriz is the Portuguese name for Tempranillo. This name is most commonly used in the Duoro valley of northwestern Portugal where Tempranillo is made into both dry red wine and port. Touriga Nacional is a variety of red wine grape, considered by many to be Portugal’s finest. Despite the low yields from its small grapes, it plays a big part in the blends used for ports, and is increasingly being used for table wine in the Douro and Dão. Touriga Nacional provides structure and body to wine, with high tannins and concentrated flavors of black fruit.. Souzao grape is known for the deep color it produces in a wine as well as its coarse and raisiny taste. This is truly a Portuguese blend loaded with flavors, deep color and light but noticeable tannins.

Tempranillo-ElMatador-2008

2008 El Matador – Tempranillo

Here’s what Lodiwine.com blogger, Randy Caparoso has to say about the Tempranillo grape:

“Have you ever tasted good Tempranillo? If so, you experienced a soulful, sumptuous, mouth-filling red wine, as soft and sensuous as velvet. Its qualities tend to be more tactile than aromatically delineative, yet typically conjuring sensations of black fruits steeped in earthen spiced liquids; tinged with wispy smoke and licorice, like crinkly brown tobacco leaves if not roasting meats. And when enjoyed with actual roasting meats and vegetables, the flavors of a good Tempranillo become all the more compelling. As Jimi Hendrix once said, if I don’t meet you no more in this world, I’ll meet you in the next one… don’t be late!”

TintaDeToro-ElMatador-2009

2009 Tinta de Toro – Tempranillo

One of the many synonyms for Tempranillo, the great grape of Spain. Tinta de Toro is the name used in the region of Toro, in central Spain. Though this region is relatively new there are some wonderful examples of Tempranillo being produced here, usually with a level of richness that is hard to acheive in the more northerly region of Rioja.
