Professional Wine Makers don’t make mistakes, that’s why we don’t consider us professional but instead uniquely different, electric, eclectic, quirky, esoteric, even wacky, but never boring or weird! Our 2013 Grenache Rose is incredible with the true Grenache fruit coming through, with notes of strawberries and fresh watermelon. The delicate nose of rose petals and mineral are balanced by juicy berry notes to create a wine that is a perfect example of Rose. So why is it called our “Ut-Oh Wine”? It started a second fermentation in the bottle and has become a Sparkling Rose! The flavors are incredible and enhanced with some bubbles. This wine will be for sale only in our tasting room as if it is shipped, corks will POP! Come in, grab a bottle, but remember to store and chill with caution as it is a ticking time bomb!! 2013 Grenache

Grenache is the French (and most internationally recognized) name for the grape, but it has a number of synonyms. In Spain, where it is grown extensively, it is known as Garnacha, and on the island of Sardinia it has been known for centuries as Cannonau. Some believe that the grape originated in Sardinia, and was taken back to Spain by the Aragonese, who occupied the island in the 14th Century. In France Grenache is most widely planted in the southern Rhone Valley and throughout both Provence and Languedoc-Roussillon. It’s a grape that, used in blends, provides winemakers with all sorts of possibilities. Our 2013 Grenache is spicy with black cove and pepper. It has subtle strawberry and cherry notes. Typical flavors of Grenache are jam, spice, dried fruit, earthiness and some pepper, depending on where it’s grown. 14% Alc. $20 per bottle

2012-winebarn-red

2012 WineBarn Red- Trincadeira Preta, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional & Souzao

Our 2012 WineBarn Red is a blend of Trincadeira Preta, a variety found in Portugal. It’s known for it’s spice and raspberry flavors. Tinta Roriz is the Portuguese name for Tempranillo. This name is most commonly used in the Duoro valley of northwestern Portugal where Tempranillo is made into both dry red wine and port. Touriga Nacional is a variety of red wine grape, considered by many to be Portugal’s finest. Despite the low yields from its small grapes, it plays a big part in the blends used for ports, and is increasingly being used for table wine in the Douro and Dão. Touriga Nacional provides structure and body to wine, with high tannins and concentrated flavors of black fruit.. Souzao grape is known for the deep color it produces in a wine as well as its coarse and raisiny taste. This is truly a Portuguese blend loaded with flavors, deep color and light but noticeable tannins. BEST OF CLASS OF REGION, SILVER- CA State Fair Wine Competition 14.8% Alc. $22 per bottle

ripken-maxine_rouge-final-9-8-15

2013 Maxine’s Rouge- Montepulciano

Montepulciano ripens late and has a tendency to favor producing large yields. The grapes can be plump with a low skin to juice ratio. However, the skin has a fair amount of pigmented tannins and color producing phenols that with maceration can produce either a deep ruby colored wine or a pink Cerasuolo wine. Compared to most Italian varieties, Montepulciano has moderately low acidity and more mild (i.e. softer) than bitter edged tannins. Wine expert Oz Clarke describes Montepulciano as producing a “round, plummy and weighty red with ripe tannins, good acidity and a low price tag.” As you can see, we have a new label! This label was designed around Susan Ripken’s beloved pet potbelly pig Maxine. Maxine was born July 4, 2013. 8 weeks later, at only 6 pounds, Maxine came home as a beloved member of the family. She has since grown to be 140 pounds. She can be spotted at the winery on weekends when Susan is around. She loves belly scratches and treats such as watermelon, lettuce, acorns…she’s a pig so she’ll eat pretty much anything vegetarian. 15.1% Alc. $24 per bottle

TintaDeToro-ElMatador-20092009 Tinta de Toro – Tempranillo

One of the many synonyms for Tempranillo, the great grape of Spain. Tinta de Toro is the name used in the region of Toro, in central Spain. Though this region is relatively new there are some wonderful examples of Tempranillo being produced here, usually with a level of richness that is hard to acheive in the more northerly region of Rioja. 14.9% Alc. $24 per bottle

2013-carmine

2013 Carmine

Dr. Harold Olmo, of the University of California, created this cross of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Carignane to be a Cabernet alternative for California’s ‘cool’ coastal regions. The varietal never gained any significant acreage in these coastal regions or any other vineyards in California. However, Carmine can now be found in a few far flung appellations across North America. Modest amounts of Carmine can be found in Pennsylvannia, Michigan and Oregon. Carmine is a late budder and late ripener and has a tendency to overproduce with lots of large clusters if not properly managed. The grapes of the vine benefit from black skins as can be seen in the resulting wines. This is one of those unique varieties you will only see at Ripken Winery. It is growing inpopularity but still difficult to find on the market. Our 2013 Carmine has a black cherry, bell pepper, black olive, spicy and smokey notes. It will pair well with BBQ’d meats especially lamb. 14.9% Alc.$24 per bottle

Our Alicante Bouschet is full-bodied, with black raspberry, blueberry flavors and a nose of smoke. 13.6% Alc. $26 per bottle
