2012 WineBarn Red- Trincadeira Preta, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional & Souzao

Our 2012 WineBarn Red is a blend of Trincadeira Preta, a variety found in Portugal. It’s known for it’s spice and raspberry flavors. Tinta Roriz is the Portuguese name for Tempranillo. This name is most commonly used in the Duoro valley of northwestern Portugal where Tempranillo is made into both dry red wine and port. Touriga Nacional is a variety of red wine grape, considered by many to be Portugal’s finest. Despite the low yields from its small grapes, it plays a big part in the blends used for ports, and is increasingly being used for table wine in the Douro and Dão. Touriga Nacional provides structure and body to wine, with high tannins and concentrated flavors of black fruit.. Souzao grape is known for the deep color it produces in a wine as well as its coarse and raisiny taste. One of the many synonyms for Tempranillo, the great grape of Spain. Tinta de Toro is the name used in the region of Toro, in central Spain. 2012 Old Vine Zinfandel

In February of 2012, we purchased a vineyard of Old Vine Zin. This Old Vine Zin is loaded with raspberry and cherry aromas. It is medium body and very fruit forward- just the way we like to make our wines. There are subtle hints of clove and black pepper, smooth tannins and the french oak opens up nicely with some air. Winebarn-Ripken-20092009 WineBarn Red – Malbec, Maxine Rouge Petite Sirah & Tannat

This is a full body, spicy well balanced red. Its loaded with flavors of cherry, blacberry and tobacco spice. ‘Maxine Rouge’ is named after Fay’s wife, Maxine, a devoted supporter of his 50 years of grape breeding work. Table wines made from the variety have been described as medium bodied with good color and mouth feel and of excellent acidity. The flavor profile is fresh red to dark fruits, and it can have some herbaceous flavor as well. It has been described as similar to Cabernet Sauvignon or Ruby Cabernet if the fruit is fully ripe.
